Forum for Exchange Between Grant Holders

Dr James Kelly, Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), James Clerk Maxwell Building, University of Surrey, UK

New academics sometimes lack advice from current grant holders, with first-hand experience in their topic area. This workshop will help to fill that gap by bringing together a broad range of different grant holders who will provide vital tips on: grant writing, recruitment, project management from their own first-hand experience.

There will be opportunities for audience engagement during the Q&A and panel session; providing a rare opportunity to quiz seasoned grant holders on their approach. Presenters will also outline key findings from their resent research into antenna technology. The workshop is expected to provide a catalyst for new collaborations.

1)     Opening presentation by the organiser

2)     Four (4) invited presentations – 100 minutes

3)     Break

4)     Three (3) invited presentations – 75 minutes

5)     Panel discussion with invited speakers as panellists, moderated by the organiser – 25 minutes

The workshop will consist of seven (7) 25 minute talks by research grant holders. Each presenter will outline key technical findings from their recent grant(s). They will also give tips on grant management. Finally, they will mention possible areas for collaboration with the other presenters in the workshop, in order to stimulate discussion.
